Handbook Highlight- Accident Procedures

ACCIDENT PROCEDURES

This policy is concerned with the reporting of injuries occurring on and off the campus at school sponsored events.  Any one of the following criteria is sufficient to define an accident or injury as serious:
  1. A condition requiring the student to have immediate treatment from a physician;
  2. A condition requiring the use of an ambulance; and/or
  3. A condition necessitating hospitalization.

ON CAMPUS

The teacher in charge should immediately notify the health clerk or assistant principal of the nature, location, and name of the student involved in the accident.

  1. The health clerk, or the teacher in charge, will notify a member of the high school administration of the circumstances as soon as the situation permits.
  2. The health clerk or an administrator will advise the parents of the student(s) of the circumstances.
  3. If an ambulance is required it will be ordered through Emergency 911 or the Placentia Police Department (993-8111).  Normally this order will be placed by the health clerk or an assistant principal.  If they are not available, the order will be placed by the teacher in charge.  A staff member will accompany the student if the parent or guardian is not present. Unless the doctor or parent gives other directions, the student is to be transported to the emergency facility of Placentia Linda Community Hospital.
  4. An Accident Report must be filed with the Health clerk in the Health office prior to the beginning of classes on the next school day by the teacher in charge.
