Handbook Highlight - Earthquake Procedures

Teachers should continuously review, update, and practice the Earthquake Procedures with their students.

Earthquake Procedures:

  1. Drop Command (Bells - one 30 second ring):  Students and teachers get under tables, desks, chairs, in kneeling position with hands holding legs of desk, back to window - NO TALKING remain in "drop" position.
  2. Leave Building:  When "leave building" is sounded over the intercom or a 15 second ring, evacuate to Emergency Assembly Area (north campus to Valencia’s baseball field and south campus to Kraemer’s athletic field).  Teachers take roll book.  Note:  All teachers with Duty Assignments should immediately turn class over to another teacher once he/she reaches the safety of the assembly area and proceed with their disaster assignment duty.
  3. Return to Class - Five (5) five-second bells:  During evacuation, teachers should check on the condition of teachers in adjacent classrooms.  This kind of "buddy system" allows for a teacher to remain with an injured student until a search and rescue team could arrive.  In your classroom preparations for these drills, review your Emergency Procedures with students
